ORLANDO, FL—July 10, 2006— Ironwood Omnimedia will release its first of many products for the E-RPG System; Fantasy Sagas: Player’s Guidebook and The Game Master’s Lodestar. These two products are all the rules necessary for players to get started with the Sagas Game. Sagas is a universal role-playing game designed so that players can interchange rules and settings seamlessly between the three rule sets: Fantasy, Modern, and Sci-Fi. Above all else, Sagas is a character-focused game. Players create and develop characters that are individuals with strengths, weaknesses, and skills that the players feel are appropriate for their character.

E-RPG is the game system developed for Sagas. It allows players to focus their playing style on the areas that they feel more involved with. For instance, players more interested in combat can become more involved with the tactics and strategy that the combat system affords, while those players more interested in other aspects only need concern themselves with the basic mechanics of combat. This allows players to develop the game they want to play as they play it. If you enjoy the balancing act of dealing with diplomatic encounters a player can learn all the nuances to character social interactions and apply various tricks and skills to make the encounter more interesting and dramatic for them.

The game’s ability to conform is easily handled while playing. Game Masters and players do not need to generate a game around a style. Well-developed stories can allow for players to change the tone of their playing throughout the playing experience. This includes character development. The purchase point system employed by E-RPG means that a player who isn’t happy with the current direction of a character could develop the character through the game in an entirely different direction. For instance, the player whose character begins as a bookworm may decide to put down the books and develop a more physical role. As the character becomes more adept at this new role it can become more proficient and soon seem to be an almost new character.

Why release for free? The answer is actually rather simple: new games aren’t cheap. No one knows what they are getting into with a whole new product line. The market is filled with mainstays and names that are synonymous with the industry or their particular genres. With many of these companies charging around $25-$30 (or more) per book, and requiring upwards of three books just to get started, the industry may seem a little daunting for new players to dive into. By releasing the core rules as free downloads would be players can look over the game and see if it’s right for them. If players like what they see they can purchase printed material for $10, or download printable versions of the e-book online at http://www.lulu.com/ironwood.
