Version 1.3 of the Fantasy Sagas Player’s Guidebook is now available.

Ruel Knudson speaks out about the changes, and errata from the previous version.

“We discovered, rather late, that the first release was actually a corrupted version of the book. During the final compiling and uploads the files got overwritten by older files which weren’t accurate. We began receiving emails about this late last month and members of the Ironwood Community were very helpful in pointing out the sections that had been corrupted.”

Ruel Knudson and the Ironwood Development team weren’t simply satisfied with making those corrections, however. Instead, the entire book went through another overhaul.

“We found an opportunity in this challenge. While we expect some level of mistakes in a first release, we also found that even after years of development that we had more to add to this edition to make things a bit more user friendly.”

Formatting changes were added and the back cover of the book was replaced. Headers identifying chapters make it easier for players to thumb through to sections they need to reference faster. Additionally, new comment boxes were added in some sections providing alternative “Simple Rules” that give Game Masters and players more opportunity to customize the game. Many more changes were made along with the corrections.

“It shows how versatile the rules are. While still maintaining the core element of the game we were able to present a way for players who wanted a simpler mechanic to some elements. This lets them move through parts of the game faster if they are less inclined to be interested in these aspects.”

The new update has provided a minor setback for the Sagas line however. New delays are expected for the Modern and Fantasy Sagas. Ironwood developers are now forecasting a holiday release for these core rule books. The Fantasy Sagas supplements, including the Paradigm and Prophecy books are slated for release within the coming month.

“It set us back a bit. We were developing primarily off the corrupted files. Each of the Player’s Guidebooks shared many common elements. Now we have to revise those common elements in these books as well.”

Despite this minor setback Ironwood developers are excited about the future. New free downloads are under development as well, including two race/creature collections and more alternative rules.

“Community members have expressed interest in variant combat mechanics. We have developed what I like to call ‘Simple Combat’. This system is more in-line with traditional turn-based RPG combat games. While it does take away some of the tactical element of the combat, it does provide a new alternative for players and a different feel for the game. This type of customization is at the heart of the system. We are excited to show off the ability for this game to be completely changed in one of its core elements and still retain the defining elements of the E-RPG system.”
