This Weekend, The Nerdy Show, and the Character Generator
Posted by: Ruel Knudson in DPnP, Developer Blog, My Gaming, Overall Development, Player Character CreatorSo this weekend I had a great time. I got some more character sheet code done for the Character Manager. Furthermore, I got to run a game sessions for the guys at Nerdy Show. The session ran so well that, well…
Nothing is set in stone yet, but it looks like we may have some converts from D&D 4th edition to the Sagas RPG. Now, we who play already know that E-RPG is heads above other systems, but to get a nod from the Nerdy Show guys is a pretty big compliment, especially when it is put up against Hasbro’s juggernaut. Now, I’m not saying they preferred it, but I am saying that it looks like the Fantasy Sagas RPG is going to be the game we play in future episodes of their Dungeons and Doritos podcast. Yes, I said “we” as I am the GM for the game as of our last conversation.
In my world nothing is final until it happens. There was no exchange of contracts or anything formal going on. They gave me a call, expressed an interest, and after some schedule dancing we finally got to play. I ran The Unkindness of Ravens (they picked from the three existing Sidetracks). We recorded the session with ad-hoc conversions of their D&D characters and we had a blast! At the end of the session they expressed a desire for me to run the games, and yes we would use E-RPG. Like I said though, nothing is set in stone yet. These are just conversations but it looks pretty locked in. Now, if something does go wrong and it changes back then so be it. However, I had some fun, they had some fun. Here’s hoping that we get to continue the fun!
As of now we are still ironing out some scheduling thing. Nothing’s formerly announced yet, and when it is it will be done on their show, not in my blog. So, tune in to the Nerdy Show and you can catch up on previous Dungeons and Doritos episodes (I’m not in them) until we get further confirmation.
On another note: the character sheets for the DPnP Character generator are slowly growing. This week I got the magic record sheets settled in. You get record sheets for each magic skill and the spells for that skill separately and all the skill tests, spell sizes, effect tests, etc are written write in and calculated up for you. No work needed as you look down your grimoires and cast away. I am still working on equipment load outs but they are huge so they are taking time. Once that is done it is off to the vehicle record sheets, computer record sheets, and then Hirelings. That will finally close out the character generator’s core program. The demo will then go live and I will work on the final portions of the character manager (for spending loot and experience between sessions). The GM screen is the last part of the overall conflagration but will only be part of the initial release depending on other circumstances.
