Yes, its been a long time running. Its also been a long time between posts. A lot has changed in my personal life that is making things run a bit slower. The delays led to some conversations with one of my testers about the progress of DPnP, why things are not finished, and what still needs to be done. Those questions were interesting to me and got me thinking that those answers should be delivered publicly as well. The small Q&A below is paraphrased but you get the idea.

And by this I mean making the Character Sheets in the Character Manager much easier to customize. There is a lot of work going into making things easily accessible within this file. Most importantly is the CSS (style sheets that handle all of the window dressing and aesthetics of a web page) which has things broken down pretty tightly. A basic knowledge of CSS will be more than enough to apply changes and give a character sheet the unique flavor you need.

As I get further and further along with the code on DPnP their inevitably comes a time when I have to hit a stopping point and go back to clean up the code. I doubt its a best practice sort of thing, but it is a necessary part of the whole learn as you go sort of thing. As development gets further and further along, and the program gets more and more complex, things start to slow down when running it. This is usually because I did something the long way and I may later learn a much easier (speaking in terms of computer resources that is) way to get things done. I make notes of things as I go, and then go trekking back to those areas and clean things up, streamline them, and in generally get things running in a smoother way. It becomes even more necessary as you start expanding on how things are going to work. For instance, character sheets are getting a bit of a tweak.

As promised, today I am getting in depth with the Character Journal of the PC manager. Frankly, this feature may not mean anything to many players, but for some like me this is an exciting element of the program that I plan to use like crazy!

No sooner than about two days after I had posted that I was removing the ability to have more than one character load out (inventory configuration) than I was able to get things working in an easy way (for the end user). So, with that in the can, so to speak, I moved back towards the aspects of the program dealing with the bread and butter of characters in an RPG, experience points, loot, etc.

I have a project idea folder that is bursting with a bunch of content that I hope to develop after the release of DPnP. These projects are largely in the vein of product lines. In a sense they all focus on delivering a type of product that enhance both Sagas games as well as being useful for other RPGs. These run along the same line as the Sidetracks series. Many of the projects I can’t really talk about as they may be new intellectual property assets for Ironwood. However, some are concepts that I tool around with. I get an idea and write up a quick outline with all of my thoughts on that project. Some are things I think would be good for more game companies to focus on. One of the more nagging concepts in my folder is titled “Sandbox”. Its a product line that is designed for sandbox game play (hence the name).

Development continues, but not without its hiccups. However, there is good news as I still feel that I should meet the release date of July. Specifically when is still up in the air. However, a final Character Generator and a Character Manager are nearing completion. Then I have some bugs to hunt down and fix. So, what’s the good news? Simply put its…

I just got the email verifying tomorrow’s recording session and I am very excited about it. The excitement is only somewhat marred by the state of DPnP, which I had hoped to have more accomplished by then. Some of the things I was hoping to use are still not complete, such as the virtual GM screen, but that’s ok. It won’t hurt the show, or the game at all. The characters in the show have been almost completely converted. I mean almost because there is some little hiccups here and there with the character sheets I have to iron out before then. Still, the show’s a go and you will be able to hear a recorded game session using Fantasy Sagas RPG rules and get a glimpse of how it is played from the creator’s point of view .Avid players may find some things strange when I play, however. Despite my having created the rules, you will likely find I am not overly strict in the implementation of them. So, I thought for those players already familiar with the game you may want to know how/why I am running the game as I am going to.

This is a big week for me. First I am getting the big press pack for DPnP ready. More importantly, however, is that I will be recording my first official episode of Dungeons and Doritos with the good folks at The Nerdy Show. I’ll be running the game, and we will be using E-RPG rules. I am spending the week working on some software issues and transferring the characters from DnD rules to E-RPG. Furthermore, if all goes well, there may be some big news coming from there as well. And then there is…

Yeah, I was scratching the edge of completion on the character generator, but I still haven’t crossed over. Some difficulties remain, but I am working on them. They all fall within two elements still not finished. However, today may mean the completion (finally) of one of them. The other hurdle is not past, but I have a way over it so it is only a matter of time. So the question you have been asking, a release date, will be…
